List of Famous People With INTP Personality

Famous INTP Personalities
INTP (introverted inntuitive thinking perceiving) is one of the sixteen personality types defined by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) test. INTPs are a relatively rare type, making up about 4% of the population.

INTPs are creatures of logic. Calm, controlled, and studious, INTPs are driven by the search for reason. For INTPs, the principles behind anything can be figured out given enough time. In fact, INTPs often get caught up on thinking for its own sake; the stereotypical figure of the “absent-minded scientist” is based on INTP behavior.

It can be an effort for INTPs to remain grounded and relate their thinking to the real world, and others can see them as distant and unemotional. But the pure rationality that an INTP brings is a powerful tool for unlocking problems when it’s applied properly.

It can be hard for INTPs to relate their thinking to the real world, and others see them as distant and unemotional.Click To Tweet

I don’t think that we are an ass. I just think we like logic more than people. And I don’t think that’s bad, cause if there were just extroverts, I think we wouldn’t be as far in Technik as we are right now.

I also admit to being an ass. Many random people come around and I kinda try to play my role and let them yap while trying to truly see their point of view, but ultimately, if I don’t try to inject my own opinion into the conversation I end up bored and un-stimulated, feeling like the discussion was just a one-sided factless rant. Evolution made a pre-emptive strike when it comes to INTP. Maybe though, in a few hundred/or thousand years….. (that is, if there still is a humanity)… who knows if our niche personality would or would not help bring this wayward son of a species in a better direction…
Yeah I take full responsibility of the “ear-beating of words” you just have to endure, but I think you’ll get the basic message I’m trying to relay.

Yes. You are right. Not involving yourself and stating our points is hard. As we are the smart ones, we have to understand the dumb ones point of view, in the end we have to state our logic, as theirs is bs.
p.s you can only do this when ur with friends, or family, if it’s with a stranger we will evade them.

You’re not automatically smart for seeing logic. There’s different types of smart so just because a person doesn’t think like you doesn’t mean their not smart it just means they are knowledgeable in different areas as you. An INTP

My friends used to tell me I text like their parents because I literally can’t get whatever everyone else is so jazzed about for texting other people, but maybe I get it now. I think everyone in this comments section sounds like a literal thinker, and I also too have to actively work to not look bored when other people are talking to me oof. Rip.

He couldn’t be an INTP. He actually follows cases through from beginning to end and solves them. He is detail oriented, His wealth of knowledge suggests he is not INTJ, who typically gleans only what he needs for a particular project. And he is prone to the occasional surprise. I see him more as ISTP. OTOH his brother Mycroft (along with the rest of the Diogenes Club) is more likely the INTP.

          It’s not that simple.
          1) INTJ’s are actually pretty rebellious, and they don’t usually respect rules that they don’t believe in.
          2) There is evidence to the contrary, that she actually does use a lot of structure.
          – She get’s extremely upset when Ron and Harry (and her) leave the corridors past the curfew. Here’s what she says to them: “We could all have been killed – or worse, expelled.” –> shows she likely cares a lot about rules (although not necessarily)
          – She manages her time incredibly well. She even gets a necklace that can allow her to go back in time so she can attend more classes. She is only able to do that because she can manage her time so well and she’s such a good student. I doubt she would have gotten the necklace otherwise.

Some of us, like me, have learned to organize the f*** out of those things we wish to avoid having to think about, but must, and thereby avoid both pain and the ennui of repetitive or uninteresting tasks. So we appear to be J’s, but aren’t. It’s practical pain avoidance.

If they were, did you really have to try and call them out on it because of a valid point?
And still, if you really had to ask, maybe word it so everyone doesn’t get pissed at that statement? I didn’t just comment and say, “You’re dumb for saying that.” because everyone would take it out of context. Try a bit harder next time.

If you take “4 percent of the population” by default, that means 4 percent of the population everywhere. That means the world, not just America. So yes, while in America, because INTP’s are 4 percent of the population and black people make up 12 percent of the population, it does mean black INTP’s are a minority in America. But while black INTP’s might be a minority among INTP’s in America, well… that’s just America. Not the world. Because depending on the place the percentage of black people changes. In Jamaica, for instance, black INTP’s are probably majority of that 4 percent of the population. So what does this mean? It means that what you said it not necessarily accurate, and therefore not necessarily true as well. You’re conclusion is not taking into account all the context, and all the data. It is not necessarily true that in general, black INTP’s are a minority among INTP’s.

I know what you mean, however I think he is an INTP. This is especially apparent earlier on in the series, he definitely seems like a primary Ti user. Also, his overall quirky behaviour is seen throughout the series with his Ne, questioning everything. The key thing is that he over uses his Si, as seen with taking methodical approaches at times and going by the system (at times). It’s his inferior Fe though that is also prominent. Very hard call though.

You’re wondering because you wonder if it’s “reversible.” lol I do as well. Being in harmony and in sync with one’s fellow man seems/feels so much better than standing apart, especially as a guy ages and we seek more meaningful connections in the everyday world. It’s a sad, lonely road, but personally I can say I’ve met and befriended some people from very different personality types who eases that burden from time to time. The key is in truly valuing their opinion and realising they “might know something you don’t,” (which is true, as you can’t disprove it!! wait… ) as Jordan Peterson would describe it. And that’s hard for an INTP, lmao, but also true. You never know if they might have some paradigm-shifting idea you never thought of!! :P

That’s what I was wondering too- there’s 7 people in my family and I’m the only “thinker” in my family. Of course everyone thinks, but as a core trait, all of my family are F’s.

      Father: INFJ
      Mother: ESFP
      Older sister: INFP
      Me; INTP
      Older brother: ENFP
      Younger sis: ESFP
      Youngest sis: ENFP

I’m still yet to find out what my other relatives’ types are. And I’ve still not found another INTP out of anyone I know personally. My boyfriend is an ENTJ, and apparently our types are extremely compatible which I’ve found an ongoing pattern with the 2 core traits in others’ relationships.

      For example:
ENTJ ~ INTP (NT) Intuitive Thinking
ISTP ~ ESTJ (ST) Sensing Thinking
ENFP ~ INFJ (NF) Intuitive Feeling
etc. (you get the picture). But if you don’t, here’s a quick summary- 2 types with the same 2 middle traits and the opposite 2 outer traits are more likely to be compatible than types with only 1 trait in common or opposite,

My mother(ESFP) and my father(INFJ) don’t really get along too well…. at all. They aren’t

(My younger sisters are still pretty young and a lot of their answers were mutual. Plus I don’t think their personalities are fully developed, by the time they’re my age I’m certain their MBTI type will be different, or even within a year).

And of course everybody thinks their type is intelligent. Emotional intelligence, for instance, is something that can evade many of us INTPs. Anyway, quit using MBTI to prove how special you are to the world.

INTP’s have a very strong connection with their own well-being. I’ve always worked hard on my strength, flexibilty, balance, endurance, control, blah blah, hell, I usually over think it. For those in scientific fields you’re probably right though. What goes on inside overrides anything on the outside. When I’ve decided to munch down on a workout program and follow it religiously, I stick to it and proper nutrition, but it’s more like a cold-turkey never-smoke-again routine, leaving no other outcome to myself than death hahaha. When my mind is off chasing ideas and no health/physical routine I tend to slim out while not focusing on my physical well-being. Overall though I think INTP’s are very much in sync with their physical well-being, sometimes to the point of being hypochondriacs.

I’ve read that the show creator used Nikolas Tesla as a personality model for Shelden. And have seen Tesla on an INTP list. But it’s also Hollywood so writers gonna write quirks in for comedy over authenticity. That said, INTPs can be very particular about HOW they organize. They/we won’t organize everything but also don’t let other people even attempt to organize stuff they might care about. I am messy but when it comes time to do the laundry and dishes I am pretty anal about how they’re done. That might resolve the contradiction a bit on Shelden and his clothes. If they were action figures or Magic cards or microscopes rather than clothes it might seem more TP-ish.

I also gauge Tesla as an INTP. I might be wrong, but as far as I can remember, Tesla died alone, in poverty, and as a virgin, describing a pigeon he owned as something he loved “as a man loves a woman.” Let’s not be Tesla. He was such a brilliant and transformational mind for the future of humanity, but that doesn’t mean you have to be a martyr for science, if you get my drift…. It’s a rare kind of man, but I hope that those who follow in those mighty steps might innovate on them as well.

I think people are confusing personality with ASD traits. I have ADHD and ASD comorbid, so I can relate to some of the “strict routine quirks,” but ONLY SOMETIMES and ONLY when it comes to certain things. I was told by my doctor (who diagnosed me) that ADHD with ASD sometimes balances each other out, such as I am less rules oriented than other people on the spectrum due to the ADHD.

Sheldon could very well be an INTP with ASD.

INTPs were probably not successful at procreating in slavery conditions. Think too much, dead. Question authority, dead. Learn to read, dead. Get hit on, don’t even realize it. Get along well, talk too much, risk too little, still no babies. If not for academia and industry and the arts not many INTPs would survive, nevermind thrive to fame. A handy shortcut for understanding racial differences in America for last 250 years is to realize “black” is just the same as “White plus racist oppression.” It’s not perfect but it gets you to the answers.

That’s assuming that personality types are genetic. Personality is typically considered to be formed through early childhood. Also, most of those INTP’s are historical figures, which makes sense since INTP’s are known as system creators/innovators. The only modern INTP’s that are recognized as such, tend to be in the tech field since you can see the success of innovations quickly in that sector. Going back to the historical figures that make up INTP’s, it’s important to know that the history we subscribe to was written in a white dominated world by white people. There aren’t that many historically significant black people relative to their white counterparts in general, and the historically famous blacks tend to be moreso for advocacy and starting movements; which is not a very INTP thing. INTP’s that are famous in fields other than academic/intellectual endevors tend to be famous for what they did while happening to be INTP’s, not famous for their INTP-ness.

But it just goes round and round in circles, with no answer. It’s like I spend my time trying to find the “answer” to life – on the one hand knowing there is no answer, but equally feeling like I NEED for there to be an answer. And I don’t understand how other people can function without having “life” answered.

I’ve read that the mbti was meant originally to assist teachers with knowledge of how thier students may learn however, my schools/teachers and family didn’t use it or likely were unaware of it.

it is debatable I suppose whether or not that is good or bad for “shaping” (for lack of a better word) our particular person

I would like to request for someone to create a forum (seperate club) of some type… for us INTP to gather

As for comments here on this page:
The percentage of INTP are going up including other known personality types… I know I have been oblivious to mbti till a week ago…

I can see how an INTP understood to (at all cost) have slavery abolished

      And

I also sadly, see and understand from experience why Tesla’s work was credited to Edison

I’m horrid with math, but I keep testing as INTP-a (I’ve retaken it several times over the years, under various moods, out of skepticism). It was always frustrating for me, trying to work with numbers, but I had a college professor who finally suggested I had some degree of dyscalculia – after I was discussing my upcoming chemistry exam with her over lunch (not her subject), and how on the last exam, the professor said I did all the work correctly, and even had the right answer at one point but then I’d write down the wrong answer on the answer sheet (good thing she made us show our work, so I got partial credit). With that new input, I tried several different available online tests for dyscalculia (non professionally), and they all indicated an inclination. It also affects my sense of direction, according to what I’ve read on it so far, and why I catch myself thinking a beat when picking out what’s left or right (even though I totally know the difference). Which means, while I may love maps, it takes me longer to orient with them, and figure out what’s where; while I find a beauty in math, I am not a very good calculator (especially when it comes to division and subtraction). There have been times when I am surprisingly fast at a random math problem (in my head!), and my friends are shocked, “You don’t math. How’d you get that right?” and I honestly don’t know. It surprised me too :)

I am more prone to analyzing .. literally everything else. I majored in History with a concentration in comparative religion, with a minor in anthropology back in college. A few years later, I went back for an environmental science degree, but the only type the school offered was through biology, and that involved a lot of chemistry .. and I was never able to overcome organic chemistry and orienting the molecular structures in my mind for the exams (the only three grades that mattered), so I failed with only those two classes left to go (organic chemistry I & II). My friends have pointed out they have other options available now for environmental science, but I’ve rather lost interest in bothering with it, or at least motivation to go through it all again. I had a goal though, to bring the social sciences of history and anthropology to modern issues of environmental degradations, to give the present problems some context – I would’ve focused on South Florida, since that’s where I was already (pretty convenient), and my Florida History professor suggested I focus on the area. I still did all the research, I just don’t have the degree to show for it.

But .. have you ever forgotten to eat or drink anything for days because you were *really* in to some new information? Or a puzzle? I also write, write, and write like the dickens. A twenty-four page report? I can’t go over twenty-four? Don’t bother giving me “plenty of time” by giving the assignment before the winter break, I’ll start it a few hours before it’s due and it’ll be marvelous (if prolix).

Going way back to the racist comment from “December 08, 2017” up there .. it seems odd to think of anyone with the “N-P” types having such a narrow view, and especially for an INTP to be so hostile against the views of others (input is input, to be evaluated, but not flippantly dismissed). Perhaps I just don’t know enough people, but it sounds anathema to the traits. Where is the logic to back up such proclamations? Vague correlations? That’s missing a lot of context that helps to explain the causes of such correlations. Then again, I recall a quote (possibly paraphrased) from ST: Voyager, where Janeway tells Tuvok, “You can logic yourself to justify anything, that’s its power and its flaw.” I hope I don’t ever fall into that trap, and cause unintentional harm.

I don’t think it’s just math that you are terrible at, but not everyone can do math or type proficiently. There is more to being and INTP than your ability to use the quadratic formula or the Pythagorean theorem. Have you ever just been curious about something and tried everything in your power to fulfill that desire of knowledge. Maybe it’s not math that you are good at, but you enjoy art. Maybe you enjoy creating music for the public ears. Maybe you are very analytical about your setting and aren’t as gullible as people may assume. If you don’t think that any of the traits fit you, then you might have taken the wrong test or might have taken it wrong. Even then, the personality test is just a neat way to see what kind of person you are. Your personality also changes over time. Maybe you should try taking the test again and seeing what might change.

Finding that my personality is INTP really explains a lot to me
As a LEO I haded a lots of friends , but finding a person that could get what I’m thinking of was impossible , whenever I’m in a conversation with some people , no one would ever anderstand my ideas , my opinions and thoughts , and in somehow eventually they became true ,
Whenever my friends start a conversation I always find myself backing away , I find them useless and their comments are pointless
For example in a cheating or fighting statement or something they always goes for the side of their friend and keeps on blaming the other side , she’s my friend I know but their must be some reasons ,some points we havent seen , we need to know the other person’s side of story too , instead of standing and crying I’d rather find a solution before everything falls apart
Because of me thinking this way and not taking anyone’s side my friends and family always call me cold hearted, but I’m not , I’m actually triying to find a solution so they won’t stay sad any longer
I don’t know if all the intp are like me but I always find the way that I think give me problems ..

By “forward-thinking” you mean susceptible to leftist/globalist propaganda, as you clearly are. A genuine INTP seeks the truth. He is exactly correct–the INTP should be the light of reason.

Hey I love your website but I just wanted to say it’s not cool to have “formerly Ellen Page” after Elliott Page. Using a trans person’s deadname isn’t really appropriate because in their soul they have always been their preferred name. I hope this helps and much love.

      Hi Case. Point taken.
We can safely conclude that our mission is not to link names with deadnames. The reference has been removed from the page. I’m sorry this happened and that it took so long to remedy. It was not done on purpose. Specifically, it was thoughtlessness on our part.
Thank you for the thoughtful, considerate input and the kind manner in which you expressed it.

This is how the MBTI types and the real cognitive functions match

If anyone wants to read more about this, and then maybe ask/comment, you can find me at akhromant.tumblr.com (you don’t need an account to send messages there), but first make sure to check the index, read the texts/links carefully (even several times), and think things over, please. This requires some time (not just a few hours) because most people are too used to the widespread misconceptions, and the needed reevaluation is not easy (also, many people make a living out of them, or have their sense of “identity” built around them, so they basically can’t/won’t ever admit that they have been wrong all this time). Some important posts are #01, #13, #19 and #25 (but also #24, #31, #35, #59, etc). There are also tables, lists (including the Socionics correlation), and even some memes :)

This is a very brief summary of the problem: what the famous (but nonexistent) e-i-e-i/i-e-i-e “stacks” call “functions” are not what Jung discovered and described in his book. They are not functions, but behavioral traits that correspond to different pairs of letters:

Their “Te” is not the real extraverted thinking, but a mix of TJ-traits.
Their “Fe” is not the real extraverted feeling, but a mix of FJ-traits.
Their “Se” is not the real extraverted sensation, but a mix of SP-traits.
Their “Ne” is not the real extraverted intuition, but a mix of NP-traits.
Their “Ti” is not the real introverted thinking, but a mix of TP-traits.
Their “Fi” is not the real introverted feeling, but a mix of FP-traits.
Their “Si” is not the real introverted sensation, but a mix of SJ-traits.
Their “Ni” is not the real introverted intuition, but a mix of NJ-traits.

The real cognitive functions are different (for example: Fi is not about “emotions”, Si is not “memory”, Ni is not about “the future”, etc). There is a second group of people that have a sense of what [some of] the functions are, somehow, but they use those same mistaken “stacks”, so they mistype everybody (I talked about this in post #58). They should be using the correct function arrangements of the types, which are as follows:

    ESTJ is Te-Se-Ni-Fi
    ENTJ is Te-Ne-Si-Fi
    ESFJ is Fe-Se-Ni-Ti
    ENFJ is Fe-Ne-Si-Ti
    ESTP is Se-Te-Fi-Ni
    ESFP is Se-Fe-Ti-Ni
    ENTP is Ne-Te-Fi-Si
    ENFP is Ne-Fe-Ti-Si
    ISTJ is Ti-Si-Ne-Fe
    INTJ is Ti-Ni-Se-Fe
    ISFJ is Fi-Si-Ne-Te
    INFJ is Fi-Ni-Se-Te
    ISTP is Si-Ti-Fe-Ne
    ISFP is Si-Fi-Te-Ne
    INTP is Ni-Ti-Fe-Se
    INFP is Ni-Fi-Te-Se

Most people are going to reject this, I know, but that’s how the types and the real functions match. That’s how everything fits.

There is a third group of people (the smallest in number of the three, of course) that have found this, usually by themselves, after reading and thinking a lot about these things. Maybe you can be one of them :)
